Your first stop is the Corinth Canal, a stunning engineering marvel that connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf. This narrow waterway slices through the isthmus of Corinth, transforming the Peloponnese into an island and offering breathtaking views.

Step back in time as you visit Mycenae, the legendary kingdom of Agamemnon, celebrated in Homer’s epics as “Rich in Gold.” Mycenae was the most important and affluent palatial center of the Late Bronze Age in Greece and gave its name to the renowned Mycenaean civilization, one of the cornerstones of Greek prehistory.

  1. Corinth Canal, Isthmia, Loutraki 201 00 Greece, 10 minutes : The Corinth Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland, arguably making the peninsula an island. The canal was dug through the isthmus at sea level and has no locks. It is 6.4 kilometers (4 mi) in length and only 21.4 meters (70 ft.) wide at its base, making it impassable for many modern ships.
  2. From high up, you can enjoy the best view of Corinth’s isthmus and admire the steep limestone walls while you observe the vessels below you navigate their way through the canal.
  3. Ancient Corinth (Archaia Korinthos), Argous 105 Ancient Korinthos village, Corinth 200 07 Greece, 1 hour : Corinth was a city-state on the Isthmus of Corinth, the narrow stretch of land that joins the Peloponnese to the mainland of Greece, roughly halfway between Athens and Sparta. The modern city of Corinth is located approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) northeast of the ancient ruins.
For Christians, Corinth is well known from the two letters of Saint Paul in the New Testament, First and Second Corinthians. Corinth is also mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles as part of Paul the Apostle’s missionary travels. In addition, the second book of Pausanias’ Description of Greece is devoted to Corinth.
Ancient Corinth was one of the largest and most important cities of Greece, with a population of 90,000 in 400 BC. The Romans demolished Corinth in 146 BC, built a new city in its place in 44 BC, and later made it the provincial capital of Greece.
  4. Archaeological Museum of Corinth, Old Corinth, Corinth 20010 Greece, 20 minutes
  5. Temple of Apollo, Ancient Corinth, Corinth 20007 Greece, 10 minutes
  6. Mycenae, Mycenae, Argolis Region, Peloponnese, 30 minutes
  7. Acrocorinth, Corinth 200 07, Greece, 40 minutes
  8. Archaeological Site Mycenae, Mycenae 212 00 Greece, 1 hour

We booked a transfer from Athens airport to Piraeus cruise port combined with a 1/2 day tour for August 22. Our driver Andreas monitored the flight and was aware that it was arriving 1 hour early. When the flight landed he messaged us via WhatsApp that he was already at the airport and waiting just outside customs. The Mercedes sedan was spotlessly clean with the A/C set to our preference. The tour and transfer to the cruise port were exactly as described, customized to our request and priced as agreed. Andreas thoughtfully provided bottles of water and stopped for coffee as he knew we were on the red-eye flight. We were dropped off right at the entrance to each site, he knew exactly how long it would take us to tour the location and he was always waiting at the pickup location when promised. It was so convenient to leave our luggage in the sedan while touring the sites. Andreas is very professional, a skilled driver and also proud & knowledgeable of Athens history. It was a nice surprise on the last day of the cruise when he messaged us and offered to drive us back to the airport. You could not ask for better service than this.
