As voyagers of time we will present you the god Poseidon through the Athenian riviera and the residential areas built all along. We are going to visit the hidden treasure of Atticas nature, the lake Vouliagmeni.
Sounio is located in southern Attica. It was the observatory of the Athenians and the place that the Aegean sea took its name from. The biggest highlight is the temple of Poseidon, god of the sea which was built in the southest point of the mainland and this is the place that you should visit so that you will enjoy the best possible sunset from the whole region.
Only a few miles away from the center of Athens, lies a seaside idyll of wonderful beaches and local charm known as the Athenian Riviera. Beginning with the suburb of Paleon Faliron, our final destination will be the Cape of Sounion. The coastal road will provide beautiful views of the Saronic Gulf that must be seen. Along the road to the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, we will drive by the unofficial seaside capital of the Athenian Riviera, Glyfada, a cosmopolitan town famed for its shopping, food and entertainment. Except from Glyfada, we will pass through many beatiful seaside suburbs.
Visit the unique Lake of Vouliagmeni 21 km far of Athens with medicinal waters. Her name is associated with its creation, since according to geologists, the lake was formed when collapsed and sunk the roof of a cave. The temperature is almost constant throughout the year, and ranges from 22 to 29 degrees Celsius. The Vouliagmeni lake has the largest tunnel in the world. It is 800 meters long and its depth reaches 80 meters. The exploration is difficult and dangerous, as has corridors forming labyrinth 4,3 km length.
After a really interesting coastal drive with beautiful landscapes villages and towns like Varkiza, Lagonisi, Anavisos, we will reach the southern end of Attica named Cape Sounion. Once there, you will see one of the most beautiful ancient temples from the 5th century B.C., the temple of Poseidon the god of the sea. It is built in such way, that you should visit the temple in the afternoon so you can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in your life!
